History of the Hall…

The Hall was originally 'the Old Weslyan School, in the Parish of Bradleys Both, in the Administrative County of the West Riding of York, now regulated by a scheme made by the Board of Education on 9 August 1906.

It is now a charity under a scheme made by the Minister of Education under Section 18 of the Charities Act, 1960 (sealed 24 February 1961 No 4385 P. Stamp 10s.).

It was built in an L-Shape with a second Hall coming down towards Lidget Road. A horse drawn hearse was stored in a small built in shelter next to the road. A red telephone box with buttons A and B was also located at the entrance to the Hall.

There was a library (which is now the meeting room) and a snooker hall with three full sized tables. Outside were gardens with bushes, flowers and tennis courts. These grounds were sold to developers in the 70's who built the three new houses down Lidget Road. The money obtained from the sale was used to refurbish the entire Hall which had been falling into disrepair, making a single 'linear' building with car parking. The original Hall was demolished and the Snooker Hall was extended and became the main Hall.

Official Title: Parish Institute and Memorial Hall dedicated to the memory of soldiers from Bradleys Both who fought in the two World Wars.

A remembrance plaque is found in the Hall Entrance with the name of the brave village men who died in and survived the World Wars of the last Millennium.
